Ishwardi scientist Mahmuda glory for Bangladesh!

The Dhaka Times Desk Ishwardi scientist Mahmuda glory for Bangladesh! Through excellent research, he has impressed the world!

Mahmuda Sultana Munmun is a child of Joynagar village in Salimpur union of Ishwardi upazila of Pabna district. No one could have ever thought that a young woman from a neighboring village would one day raise the name of Ishwardi and Bangladesh at the global level!

By crossing the complex boundaries of chemical engineering, scientist Mahmuda surprised the world by discovering nano materials and quantum dot spectrometer devices that can be used in space. In recognition of this, Mahmuda Sultana Munmun has been selected as the IRAD Inventor of the Year by the US space agency NASA this year.

Also, the cover report of the latest issue of NASA magazine 'Cutting Edge' has been published about Mahmuda. The award is given annually to scientists who have played a significant role in developing various technologies under the Goddard Space Flight Center's Internal Research and Development (IRAD) program, primarily under NASA. Mahmuda Sultana has shown great skill in technology innovation in this program this year. He won this title.

NASA officials are also excited about Mahmuda. They said, they have never seen such a young girl working in NASA before. NASA Chief Executive Officer Peter Hughes said, "We are truly proud to name Mahmoud as Inventor of the Year." Because in all the projects he has participated in NASA, he has shown extraordinary creativity in each of them. With Mahmuda's excellent skills, we think Mahmuda will soon become a nanotechnology expert at NASA.

Mahmuda's playing partners including people from all walks of life are excited about Mahmuda's achievement. Mahmuda's father Ghulam Zakaria, a retired executive engineer of the Water Development Board, said, 'I am very happy that my daughter has been named the NASA IRAD Innovator of the Year. Now I and my family members feel differently respected by the people of the area.'

Mahmuda's uncle Ishwardi Upazila Chairman Moklechur Rahman Mintu said in this regard, being a daughter of Ishwardi's Jayanagar village, Mahmuda has made my family and Ishwardi and the people of the country sit on a seat of unique height. It is not only the villagers of Jayanagar; The people of Ishwardi are also proud.

According to Mahmuda's family sources, Mahmuda Sultana went to the United States as a teenager. He is very talented since childhood. Mahmuda completed his studies in Chemical Engineering from Southern University of California, USA. Then in 2010, Mahmuda received a PhD in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). That same year, he got a job at NASA by attending a job fair. His great uncle also works as a physicist at NASA's Ames Research Center. Mahmuda and his team are currently working on developing a prototype imaging spectrometer under MIT.

It is known about this quantum dot spectrometer, quantum dot or dot is basically a kind of semiconductor nanocrystal, which can never be seen with the naked eye. It was originally discovered in the early 1980s. A remarkable feature of this dot is the extent to which it absorbs different wavelengths of light, depending on its size and chemical composition. These nanocrystals are commonly used to make smartphone cameras, medical devices and environmental testing equipment.

Mahmuda Sultana said in one of his responses, I believe that it is possible to further improve the size of this miniaturized spectrometer for use in space. That's why this technology will be easy to use in artificial satellites and small vehicles that can be sent to places where humans can't go. This miniaturized spectrometer developed by Mahmuda utilizes absorption spectra. By doing this, it has been possible to measure how much light radiated from space dust particles and gaseous substances have been absorbed by this device, and it has also been possible to obtain various information.

We are also proud of this little scientist. We wish him success.
