Recently, some ministers and officials including the Saudi Prince were arrested in the alleged anti-corruption operation in Saudi Arabia. Those sources also said that Bandar bin Sultan, the former intelligence chief of Saudi Arabia, was also detained in the name of anti-corruption operation.
Sources in the Saudi royal palace told the news website Middle East Eye that the detained princes, ministers and officials are being tortured in the old fashioned way. Many prisoners have become ill due to these tortures carried out in the name of interrogation. They have also been admitted to the hospital.
The sources also said that the actual number of detainees reported by Saudi officials is much higher. So far at least more than 500 princes, officials and businessmen have been arrested. Among those detained are former intelligence chief Bandar bin Sultan and the daughter of Saudi tycoon Walid bin Talal.
Bandar bin Sultan served as Saudi Arabia's intelligence and security chief from July 2012 to April 2014. Previously, he served as Saudi Ambassador to America for 22 years from 1983 to 2005, Bandar bin Sultan.
Recently, Saudi King Salman appointed his son Prince Mohammed bin Salman as the head of the anti-corruption committee. Shortly after being appointed, Mohammed bin Salman arrested many princes, officials, current and former ministers and businessmen, including the head of the National Guard of Saudi Arabia, on the night of November 4.
Although these are caught talking about fighting corruption, analysts say that this operation is being carried out with the aim of consolidating the power of Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Some sources also say that King Salman will soon hand over the responsibility of the monarchy to Mohammed bin Salman!
