A New York Times report published on Saturday featured an interview with a Rohingya leader who won a seat in Myanmar's 1990 parliamentary elections.

According to the report, the person named Kew Min was a member of a Rohingya student organization in the college. He also studied in government schools. He even won a parliamentary seat in the elections held in 1990. However, according to the Myanmar government, there are no Rohingya companions left in Kew Min.

Myanmar's western Rakhine region has long been persecuted by the Muslim minority. They are now a problem for neighboring Bangladesh as well. Today they are stateless people. Myanmar's majority Buddhists deny their identity.

The Myanmar government's security official in Rakhine, U Kew San Hala, said the Rohingya have nothing here. However, his statement is considered as fake news.

Kew Min, who has lived in Myanmar for 72 years, said, "We are really shocked that Myanmar denies the history and heritage of the Rohingya in such a way.
