According to the newspaper, Primark took this decision mainly in view of the slogans that have arisen that import companies need to take more responsibility to protect the interests of workers. The company will pay more than Rs 7.5 crore to the family members of the workers affected by the accident for short-term rehabilitation.
The news also said that Primark has promised to start sending money to workers or their relatives as bankers from next week. 4 thousand workers will get this financial assistance.
Primark's owner Associated British Food recently told the media that their mid-year pre-tax profit stood at over Rs 4,931 crore. From this, the organization will give more than 750 million rupees to the accident-affected families for short-term rehabilitation, they said.
Paul Lister, head of AB Foods' administration department, said, 'They are definitely in a lot of trouble. They had various problems even in the short term. We initially supported them by giving them food. Lister added, 'Importing organizations don't know how long it may take for long-term aid to reach victims. We hope this time will not be as slow as it has been in the past. We will strive in this regard.'
The company will pay three months wages to the short-term workers. Long-term cooperation may take some time to be clear.
Note that the tragic building collapse of Rana Plaza in Savar is considered to be the worst accident in the history of the garment factory in the world. 1124 people died in this accident and 2500 people were rescued with injuries. Many people are crippled for life. The incident was widely reported in the international media. The garment factory in this building was located on the third floor of Rana Plaza, the supplier of European famous brand Primark.
