Indonesian President Joko Widodo entered the field as a presidential candidate in June 2014 to seek public support. People were impressed by his simple life and elected him.
Outside of the political elite or military officer circles, no citizen has generally become president in Indonesia. Being the president of this Muslim country with the largest population in the world is not a very simple matter. Joko Widodo, the son of a small furniture shopkeeper, became the country's seventh president.
His history is clear. He was the mayor of Surakarta from 2005 to 2012. While running for the post of mayor, many questions were raised about his wealth and being a furniture dealer. However, he was able to develop a strong relationship with the public. After becoming mayor, he adopted European Development Framework policies to modernize his city. The first task of this initiative is to put everyone on the shelves by creating a market for rare goods and a market for household goods or a new traditional market. Along with the main road of Surakarta, he built a 7 km long road and a three meter wide footpath. He renovated city parks, preserved roadside trees and developed the city as a cultural and tourist center. He was also the governor of Jakarta from 2012 to 2014. He followed a policy called Joko Bluesukan when he was the governor of Jakarta.
Through this, he regularly traveled throughout Jakarta to local communities, especially poor areas. He was seen in ordinary clothes during the tour. During this time, he used to walk in different markets and narrow streets to inquire about various problems of the residents such as food prices, housing problems, local floods, communication system and so on. It has been reported in various media that his actions have increased his popularity in Jakarta and elsewhere in Indonesia. In April and June 2014, Joko introduced a bureaucratic recruitment process called Lelang Jabatan. In this process, every government employee gets a chance to get a certain post subject to qualifying and passing the examination. Then on 22 July 2014, his name was announced as the elected president.
After becoming the President, he did many commendable things. GDP grew by 4.92% in the first quarter of 2015. In the case of drugs and corruption, the country's prevailing laws and its directives carry out the death penalty for such criminals. Although his popularity declined, he accepted any policy in the interest of the country. His principles are to protect sovereignty, increase the security of Indonesian citizens and promote economic diplomacy.
The current president of Indonesia is Joko Widodo. He was born on 21 June 1961. Joko Widodo is of Javanese origin. Before the name change, he was called Mulyun. Joko was the eldest of four children born to father Noto Miharjo and mother Suziatmi. His grandfather came from a small village in Boyolali and settled in Karanganayar. His father moved from there to Java. His education began in Tirtuyusu at State Primary School 111, known as a school for poor citizens.
At the age of 12, he started working in his father's furniture store. Failed three times after passing Madhyamik. At the end of the primary stage, he was admitted to the State Junior High School. Then he was admitted to a lower ranked school as he did not pass the State Senior High School entrance examination. While working in a furniture store, he developed an interest in wood and custom furniture. After that, he continued his studies till the university despite many financial hardships. Graduated from Faculty of Forestry, Gadjah University, Yugjakarta in 1985. There he started researching the use of plywood. Joko and his wife Iriana have three children.
Despite coming from a very ordinary family, he won a respectable position at the highest level. He built trust in people's hearts. Not only the love of people, but also received many awards as recognition of work. Bintang Jasa Utama-2011, Bintang Republic of Indonesia Adipurana-2014 as national honors. His achievements include many foreign awards. Darjah Kerabat Laila Utama Yang Amat Dihurmati-2015 received from Brunei. Saudi Arabia also awarded him the Order of Abdul Aziz Al Saud-2015 medal.
In 2008, he was awarded by Tempo magazine as one of the top ten mayors of that year. In 2012, it won third place for the World Mayor Award for its transformation from a crime-ridden city to a city of art, culture and tourism. In 2013, he was named one of the leading global thinkers of the year by Foreign Policy magazine. He was also nominated as the Global Mayor of the Month by the London-based City Mayors Foundation in February of that year. In 2014, his name was included in the list of 50 biggest leaders in the world by Fortune magazine. This political leader not only thinks about the country and people, but he is also a big music lover. That's not music, heavy metal bands.
