Pilkhana Tragedy: Nation's Tribute to Martyrs

Today is the tragic 25th of February. A total of 74 people, including 57 army officers, were brutally killed during the rebellion in Pilkhana on 25 and 26 February 2009. The nation today paid deep respects to the army officers killed in the BDR rebellion. On behalf of the President and Prime Minister, their military secretary, home minister, three army chiefs, director general of BGB and relatives paid their deepest respects to the martyred army officers by laying flowers at Banani military cemetery.

Tributes were paid by laying wreaths at the graves of the victims this morning. Then a minute of silence is observed to honor the martyrs.

President Md. first in the graves of those killed in Banani military cemetery. His Assistant Military Secretary Brigadier General Kazi Iftekharul Alam placed the wreath on behalf of Abdul Hamid. Later, on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her military secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Zainul Abedin laid wreaths to pay respect to the martyrs.

Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Army Chief Abu Belal Mohammad Shafiul Haque, Navy Chief Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Abul Hossain laid wreaths at the martyrs' graves.

Prayers are prayed for the souls of the martyrs. The family members of the martyrs paid their respects.

It is to be noted that on February 25 and 26, 2009, a total of 74 people, including 57 army officers, were brutally killed during the rebellion in Pilkhana.
