There are 326 million trillion gallons of water on Earth. But of its 2 percent fresh water, most is frozen and less than 1 percent is drinkable. 98 percent of the rest is brackish water. Generally sea water is salty. Every liter of sea water contains about 30 grams of salt on average.
It is estimated that the total amount of salt in the world's oceans is 50 million billion tons. With this salt it is possible to create a wall of salt about 180 miles high and 1 mile thick that can circle the earth along the equator.
How much salt in real sea water?
One of the main sources of salt in seawater is the surface. When the rain drops fall on the ground, the carbon dioxide in the air mixes with them, making the water acidic. As this mildly acidic water flows over the surface rock, some of the rock erodes and mixes with the water. As a result, various types of ions are formed in the water and some salt dissolves in the water. All these salts go to the sea through rivers. It is estimated that freshwater rivers discharge about four billion tons of salt into the ocean annually. The water evaporates in the heat of the sun, but the salt remains in the sea water.
Many people can say why the river water is not salty? This low level of saline water is constantly carried by the river to the sea. Since river water is not stagnant, river water does not appear salty. The salinity level in river water is less than 1/200th that of sea water. However, the water of some lakes or lakes is also salty. Because lake or lake water also flows from different mountains or comes from rivers and gets stuck there. So it is slightly salty.
In addition, there are places on the ocean floor where water penetrates through different rock layers into the ocean's hot spots. As a result, the salt gets mixed with the water in the sea. Undersea volcanoes cause soluble minerals to mix with seawater. which dissolves salt in sea water.
However, as the rivers are constantly bringing salt to the sea water, the level of salt in the sea water is not increasing. The reason for this is that the same amount of salt is being accumulated in various mines under the sea. As a result, it maintains the salt balance of sea water. Most of the salt that the rivers carry is used to form the bodies of various marine animals or plants. Only sodium chloride or table salt is mixed in water.
