The Dhaka Times Desk A high-level US delegation is conducting an investigation into the Rohingya killings.
According to media reports, members of the delegation have already interviewed more than 1,000 Rohingya men and women in the Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar.
Two U.S. officials told the British news agency Reuters that data collection continues to detail the killings, rapes, beatings and possible other crimes against humanity committed by the Myanmar military against the Rohingya. The interviews were conducted by 20 expert investigators on international law and crime. In March and April this year, they came to Bangladesh and took interviews.
The US officials said that the information collected by the investigators will be analyzed in Washington and sent to the State Department in the form of a report next May or early June. But investigators have not made it clear whether the Trump administration will make the report public or whether it will be used to recommend new sanctions or international justice against the Myanmar government.
It should be noted that the Myanmar army started the Rohingya extermination operation after the attack on some security posts in Rakhine on August 25 last year. About 750,000 Rohingyas took refuge in Bangladesh to escape the ethnic cleansing.
