A residential hotel for cows, buffaloes and goats has been built in Keshavpur. Cows, buffaloes and goats are brought to the market from far and wide. If cows and buffaloes are not sold, where will they be kept? So Abdul Majeed of Keshabpur built the residential hotel for overnight stay.
From Keshabpur upazila town, entering Mahakabi Michael Madhusudan Dutta road, Abdul Majid's tin shed house is on the north side of Pashu Hat. Entering the house, we saw four rows of rope hooks for keeping cattle in different shaped houses. This is the accommodation hotel for those animals.
It is known that cows that are not sold in the market are kept in this hotel. It costs only 45 to 50 taka per cow. However, local people feel that the benefits are more than the cost.
Fazlur Rahman Babari, a cow trader in Barisal, said that it is very troublesome to buy cows from the market and load them in the car that night. So the cow was kept overnight in this hotel and taken to the destination the next morning. He said, almost all types of cattle food are available in the hotel. There are also good bathing facilities. Again there is good accommodation for cowherds here.
Abdul Majid, the owner of the cattle hotel, said that earlier he started the hotel on a small scale to keep 10 to 12 cows and buffaloes. However, due to increased demand, he arranged to keep 65 to 70 cows, buffaloes and goats on 19 percent of the land two years ago. He said that he earns about 25 thousand taka per month from the hotel.
He intends to make it bigger in the future. Traders used to get into trouble with unsold cattle, he realized that and built this hotel where cows, buffaloes and goats live. On the one hand he is doing business, on the other hand the businessmen have also benefited a lot.
