The Dhaka Times Desk The court has finally granted bail to the popular singer Asif Akbar in the case filed under the Information Technology Act. Today (Monday) at 11:30 AM, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Keshav Chandra Roy granted his bail on Tk 10,000 surety bond pending police report.
Asif's lawyer Nusrat Jahan applied again today (Monday), although the date of bail hearing was fixed yesterday (Sunday).
Earlier on June 6, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Keshav Chandra Roy denied his bail and remand and ordered to send him to jail.
Dhaka Metropolitan CID arrested Asif on the night of June 5 last in a case filed by Tejgaon police station under Information Technology Act of composer and vocalist Shafiq Tuhin. Apart from Asif, 4/5 unidentified people have been accused in this case.
According to the statement of the case, Shafiq Tuhin came to know that Asif Akbar had sold at least 617 songs of other lyricists, composers and artists along with his music without permission through an investigative report called Search Light of Channel 24 at around 9 pm on June 1.
It was revealed in the media that Asif Akbar as chairman of Arb Entertainment, On Mobile Pvt Ltd content provider, Nexnet Ltd Gaak Media Bangladesh Ltd and other organizations through digital conversion of songs to True-Tune, WAP-2, Ringtone, PRBT, Fulltrack, Wall Paper, Commercial use such as animation, 3-G content, etc., has made huge sums of money dishonestly and fraudulently.
Shafiq Tuhin also made a post on June 2 at 2:22 pm from his personal Facebook account mentioning the incident of selling music without permission.
Under his post, Asif Akbar made lewd comments and threats from his own account. Later in the live video, Asif also made insulting, vulgar and false statements.
Shafiq also threatened to discipline Tuhin. It is mentioned in the statement that Shafiq Tuhin has been defamed.
