Previously, the company laid off 70 workers at the beginning of this year. Mozilla's Taiwan office is closing entirely due to the new venture.
The company's chairman, Mitchell Baker, said that Mozilla could not make the expected profit due to the coronavirus pandemic. That is why they are forced to take such a decision. He also said that all the plans that Mozilla had taken before the Corona virus situation, do not seem to be profitable at all.
He told the media, 'Before the corona virus, we had taken some plans for the sustainable future of our organization. Which included taking new initiatives, working more with novel ideas. But now we are forced to take immediate cost reduction initiatives.'
However, the workers who are losing their jobs will get their basic salary till December this year. Besides, they will also get performance bonus for the first part of this year. It has also been informed that health insurance will also be applicable for them as per international labor laws.
On the other hand, regarding the product, Mozilla has promised to be more careful with their browser, Mozilla Firefox. Moreover, this company is also working with pocket and a VPN service.
