On September 1, at the age of 107 years and 330 days, they broke the previous record (on September 20), the Guinness Book authorities announced. Coincidentally, this day was Japan's 'Elderly Day'. Every year on the third Monday of September, the Japanese celebrate this day with respect.

Previously, this record was held by two other Japanese twin sisters, the late Kin Narita and Gin Kanye. Twin sisters Umeno Sumiyama and Koumi Kodama broke their record and set a new record. Umeno and Koumi are said to be friendly.

These twin sisters were born on November 5, 1913 on the island of Shodoshima. Coincidentally, the Guinness Book announced the new record on Japan's National Elderly Day. This day is also celebrated as a national holiday in Japan.

But these two twin sisters do not live together. They live in separate care homes. Due to extra precautions during this time of Corona, the certificate of both of them was sent to their care home by Guinness Book staff.

The previous record holders Keen and Ginn became the oldest twins at 107 years and 175 days. After Keane's death in January 2000, no one else achieved the record for more than two decades. Guin also died that year at the age of 108.

Umeno and Koumi's family, on the other hand, said they were often bullied for being twins. But above all, they have survived for more than a hundred years. Currently, Umeno has four children and Koumi, on the other hand, is a mother of three. According to the Guinness Book of Records, 118-year-old Japanese woman Ken Tanaka holds the title of the oldest living person ever.
