The Dhaka Times Desk Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of state "terrorism" after a missile attack on a tourist town in the country's south killed 21 people and wounded scores of others.
He made the allegations in his regular address to the nation on Friday (July 1). The missile struck a residential building and a recreation center in the town of Sergievka, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of the port of Odesa on the Black Sea coast. The area became a strategically important front in the war that lasted for more than 4 months.
The attack came just a day after Russian forces withdrew from an island strategic to Moscow's aggression. A 12-year-old child was among those killed in the attack.
Zelensky said in his daily address to the nation that 21 people were killed in the attack, 40 were wounded and the death toll could rise. This is a deliberate act of terrorism by Russia and not some kind of mistake or accidental missile attack.'
He further said, '3 missiles hit the 9-storey residential building, where no one had hidden any weapons and military equipment. Regular civilians lived there.'
Earlier this week, Russian airstrikes destroyed a shopping center in central Ukraine, killing 18 people, sparking global outrage. However, President Vladimir Putin did not claim responsibility for the attack and did not immediately comment on the attack in Odesa.
