No one can tell how many more lives will be taken by political violence. Class III student Shanta is battling death at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He doesn't even know what he did wrong. The 11-year-old Shanth, who does not understand anything about politics, is now lying in the medical bed. Doctors are still not giving any guarantees. No one can tell what will happen. Shanto is currently undergoing treatment in ward number 204 of casualty unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Shanto was shot in the head and back during the clashes between the Jamaat-Shibir and the police in Fakirapool last Friday. Later he was brought to Dhaka Medical. Shant lay there for a long time when he fell on the ground after being shot. Many are surprised to see such a scene on TV cameras. Everyone kept complaining why he was not picked up and taken to the hospital.
Shanta is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical. But so many bullet splinters have entered his body including his back which cannot be removed even by surgery. The doctors said that even if Shanta survives, he will have to suffer from these sprains for the rest of his life.
Shanta (11) and younger brother Shaon (9) live with mother Asma Begum in Rupganj of Narayanganj. He himself once worked in a printing press, but now runs a tea shop in front of Motijheel Ideal School. After the school's annual examination, the two brothers came to visit their aunt's house in the chairman's lane of Fakirapool. Shanta is in the third class in a school in Rupganj. At noon on the day of the incident, Shanto and Shaun took food for her from her aunt's house. After eating, on the way back home with the tiffin box, Shanto fell into a clash between the Jamaat-Shibir and the police.
