According to botanical language, pepper is a plant of Solanaceae family. Another species of this genus is Capsicum. Currently, Capsicum is a well-known name in the world of fast food. Currently, this crop is being cultivated experimentally in our country. But at the marginal level it is still not well received by the farmers. Capsicum is very popular in European countries. Capsicum is cultivated marginally along with other vegetables in those countries. It is shaped like a tomato. The color is similar to that of tomatoes. In the city, many people plant capsicums in tubs on their balconies. Capsicum is called sweet pepper. As it is in great demand at home and abroad, agricultural researchers of our country are currently doing a lot of research on it. A new variety of Capsicum has been developed by the Sher-Bangla Agricultural University to make it suitable for cultivation in the environment of our country.
The scientific name of this new variety is Capsicum annum. The researcher for this study is Nurjahan, a PhD student in horticulture at the university. He previously spent two years researching the subject in India, China and Thailand. Each pepper of this new variety discovered in the research weighs about 250 grams. Each tree produces about 12 to 14 fruits. This new variety will get good yield by sowing one gram of seed at one percent. Researchers say that it can produce about 12 to 14 tons per hectare. Capsicum is a winter crop. So it is better to cultivate it in winter for more production. Marginal farmers in our country will benefit immensely if they start cultivating it.
