The retrial of Bangladeshi teenager Felani Khatun's murder has been adjourned. However, nothing is known about the reason for the suspension as the matter is pending before the court. The trial tribunal sat in the special court of 181 Central Battalion of the BSF at Sonari in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district in utmost secrecy.

On November 17, the court was adjourned after the testimony of Nurul Islam, Felani's father. However, the matter was officially informed by BSA on Friday, November 21. However, BSF has not given any information about when the court proceedings will start again.

Felani's father Nurul Islam, Kudigram Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate SM Abraham Lincoln and Kurigram 45 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Acting Captain Major Hemayetul Islam went to India from Bangladesh to testify on November 17. Nurul Islam, the father of the deceased Felani, testified in the court on that day. While testifying, he demanded justice for the brutal murder of his daughter. The next day, Felani's father, Nurul Islam, along with the delegation from Bangladesh returned to the country. Then the court was adjourned.

BSF DIG of Cooch Behar sector DS Sandhya said on Friday, 'So far there has been no settlement in this case. The media will be informed when the court gives its verdict. He also said that 'Felani's trial is currently closed as the court has been adjourned.'

It is to be noted that on January 7, 2011, a member of BSF 181 Battalion's Chowdhuryhat camp brutally shot and killed Kishori Felani at Anantapur border in Kurigram. After Felani's death, his body was hung on barbed wire for 5 hours. There was a big storm in the international arena about this issue. After that Bangladesh government strongly protested and demanded justice from India in this incident. On September 5 last year, the court declared the accused BSF member Amiya Ghosh 'innocent' due to lack of sufficient evidence. The 'innocent' acquittal of accused BSF member Amiya Ghosh sparked strong reactions in Bangladesh. The judgment of BSF's own court drew widespread criticism in the international arena. Bangladesh demanded a retrial. Then in September last year, the BSF announced the decision to re-trial the case. The trial proceedings of this case first started on September 23 this year.
