The Dhaka Times Desk Vikarunnisa student rape victim Parimal has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the court. Dhaka Women and Children Torture Suppression Tribunal-4 Judge Md. Saleh Uddin announced this verdict on Wednesday.
After 4 years of the case, the judge of Dhaka Women and Children Torture Prevention Tribunal-4. Saleh Uddin announced the verdict today in the presence of the accused.
Parimal was fined Rs 50,000 in addition to life imprisonment. He will have to serve another 6 months sentence.
Parimal, the teacher of Bashundhara campus of this famous school in the capital, was the only accused in this case. Parimal also gave a statement admitting guilt in the court.
It is known that Parimal of Latenga village of Kotalipara of Gopalganj district joined the Bengali department as a teacher in Bashundhara branch of Vikarunnisa in 2010.
In the case in 2011, the then principal of Vikarunnisa Hosne Ara and the head of Bashundhara branch Lutfar Rahman were also accused by the father of the raped students. As their involvement was not found, the principal and Lutfar were acquitted on March 7, 2013 when the complaint was filed in the court.
It is alleged in the case that the teacher Parimal first raped the student on May 28, 2011 after luring her. At that time, the nude video of the student was captured on the mobile phone. Then he raped the girl again on June 17, fearing that the video would be published. Later, when the matter came to light, the students of Vikarunnisa erupted in protest. At one point the school authorities then dismissed Parimal.
Then on July 5, the girl's father filed a case under the Prevention of Women and Child Torture Act at Badda police station. A day later Parimal was arrested by the police from his wife's elder sister's house in Dhaka's Keraniganj. After taking him on remand and being interrogated, Parimal confessed his guilt in the court and gave a statement.
