Babri Masjid is perhaps the name of one of the most talked about mosques in the history of India and the world. Babri Masjid means Babur's Mosque.
This mosque was named as such because it was built in 1527 by the order of Mughal Emperor Babur. The mosque is built on Ramkot Hill in the city of Ayodhya in the Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh, India. In 1992, organizers of a political rally started a political rally in the area adjacent to the mosque, promising that the mosque would not be damaged as ordered by the Supreme Court of India. One and a half lakh people form a collective riot. The mosque was completely damaged due to this riot. Due to which communal riots spread in the major cities of India in the same year. At least two thousand people lost their lives in these riots in Mumbai and Delhi alone.
