The Dhaka Times Desk Every year, the websites of various important organizations are victims of cyber attacks. As a result, millions of confidential data have been leaked and organizations have suffered billions of dollars in losses. But recently there are fears that satellites may be victims of cyber attacks. Cyber attackers can attack various satellites or satellite control centers to achieve their objectives. What can happen if the satellite is subjected to a cyber attack?
If satellites and their control centers do not have high security measures, they can be attacked at any time. Such an attack on a space vehicle or satellite would have catastrophic consequences worldwide. Because many of the world's critical infrastructures, including aviation, communications and defense systems, rely exclusively on space equipment. Generally, space research, weather forecasting, TV or radio channels, phone, mobile and internet communication technology, navigation or direction guidance for ships, reconnaissance (for military purposes, to know the enemy's position), photography, hurricanes, cyclones, natural disasters. Apart from forecasting, global positioning or GPS etc., satellites are used for many other purposes.
So understand that if the satellites are attacked by cyber attackers, everything from the earth's communication system will suffer massive damage. Disturbance of direction in air traffic may lead to multiple aircraft accidents. Air defense systems of defense forces of various countries may suffer damage. As a result, every country will suffer from insecurity. There will be massive problems in the internet system.
In a word, all the benefits that we get through satellites will suffer massive losses. This can have a major impact on the world economy. Even mass casualties can occur. Therefore, in order to be protected from these attacks, each country's satellite and its controlling agencies must adopt high security measures in advance, otherwise the world will have to suffer such an accident at any time.
