The Dhaka Times Desk Grameenphone, the country's leading telecommunication service provider, has tied up with MicroNCOR Asia to provide life insurance benefits to its customers.
It is reported that Grameenphone has launched a micro-insurance scheme called 'Nirbhay Life Insurance' in collaboration with Pragati Life Insurance and MicroNCO Bangladesh. As a result, Grameenphone customers can now get free life insurance benefits based on their phone usage every month.
According to Grameen Phone, it is very user-friendly for customers and they can enjoy this facility completely free of cost. "Nirbhay Life is an exciting new initiative by Grameenphone, which will bring security to Grameenphone customers who were unable to avail insurance services," said Allan Bonke, Chief Marketing Officer, Grameenphone. He further said, "We are creating opportunities to improve the quality of customer service and provide peace of mind."
It has been informed that customers will get this benefit by using airtime of minimum Tk 250 per month. The more airtime they use, the more money they can earn and a customer will get a life insurance benefit of up to Rs 50,000.
Registration with Nirbhay Life will commence from the first day of the month following registration and the total insurance benefit will be determined based on the previous month's usage.
Md. Jalalul Azim, Managing Director of Pragti Life Insurance said, “Nirbhay Life is giving millions of mobile phone users in Bangladesh a unique opportunity to get micro insurance services. We have been able to deliver this service using mobile phone technology to those mobile users who were previously uninsured.”
Martin Fuller, COO Asia, MicroNCO said, “Insurance penetration is low in Bangladesh. Common people worry about their daily risks. Conventional concept of insurance service is reserved only for rich people. But through Nirbhay Life any people of Bangladesh will get the opportunity to get free insurance benefits. His family will get financial security in case of any accident.”
If this facility is fully implemented, the mobile customers of the country will benefit. Note that the number of mobile subscribers in Bangladesh has exceeded 100 million. Out of this only Grameenphone has 4 crore 26 lakh 2 thousand subscribers.
