On the other hand, another big problem of the capital is that big buildings are being built in the capital recently. But it is not seen whether there is fire extinguishing system in those buildings. In the survey titled 'Survey and Study of Fire Fighting Systems in High Rise Building at Dhaka City' conducted by Fire Service in 2010, it can be seen that few multi-storied buildings have good arrangement of electric sub station, generator, fire fighting tools, extinguishers. But they remain unused due to lack of proper use or regular fire drill as a precaution.
The responsible officials of the fire service said that in 2010, a survey conducted to find out how the fire extinguishing system was done on 105 high-rise buildings of different heights from two thousand high-rise buildings showed that only 2 percent of the buildings were built following proper instructions. The fire service officials believe that there will be serious casualties if a fire occurs in these high-rise buildings built at a cost of crores of rupees.
In the construction of high-rise buildings, forcing the building owner to take fire service certificate as a pre-condition for connection or pre-approval of various customer services such as electricity, water, gas etc. The authorities have been working for one and a half years but are not getting any relief. The total number of multi-storied buildings in 10 zones of DCC is 2 thousand 150. According to Jonwari statistics 129 in Zone 1, 240 in Zone 2, 64 in Zone 3, 402 in Zone 4, 467 in Zone 5, 237 in Zone 6, 147 in Zone 7, 119 in Zone 8, 307 in Zone 9 and 10 There are 38 high-rise buildings in the zone. Buildings 4 and 5 have 40 percent high-rise buildings. More than half of the total buildings are residential buildings. There are also commercial buildings.
