The Dhaka Times Desk When a building catches fire or an earthquake is felt, radio, TV and newspaper coverage begins. Building codes are not being followed, the capital will be destroyed if there is a major earthquake, etc. And when everything cools down, there are no words left in anyone's mouth. Everything seems to be going well, no problem. Only if there is a problem, the world is saved, and if there is no problem, such a situation is creating many problems for us. When there is a road accident, many writers keep silent and then the problem will always remain. In fact, no practical action can be seen in our country. It has become necessary to create public awareness about what kind of damage can happen in case of an earthquake and what measures should be taken in advance to avoid it.

On the other hand, another big problem of the capital is that big buildings are being built in the capital recently. But it is not seen whether there is fire extinguishing system in those buildings. We remember that modern buildings like Bashundhara including NTV building have been constructed, but no fire fighting system is visible. And so we have witnessed many losses in the past.
Not only should you build a skyscraper, but you have to keep its fire extinguishing system. There are currently at least 2,150 tall buildings in the 10 zones of Dhaka City Corporation. The height of these buildings ranges from a minimum of 7 floors to a maximum of 29 floors. Although there are clear instructions from the Fire Service and Defense Department to ensure all the fire fighting systems are mandatory during the construction of these skyscrapers, it is not being followed properly in most of the buildings. As a result, thousands of residents of those buildings are at serious risk of accidents. Information-daily Yugantar.
According to the information of fire service, there are instructions to keep 26 types of precautionary measures during the construction of such buildings. These are - Electric sub station, following specific rules for setting up sub station, generator, control panel, lighting conductor, exhaust fan, fire emergency steer, emergency exit indicator, hose fittings, electric pump, diesel pump, jockey pump, fire lift, fire fighters. , fire trained personnel, emergency helicopter landing or lifting and minimum 50 thousand gallon basement water storage capacity.
In the survey titled 'Survey and Study of Fire Fighting Systems in High Rise Building at Dhaka City' conducted by Fire Service in 2010, it can be seen that few multi-storied buildings have good arrangement of electric sub station, generator, fire fighting tools, extinguishers. But they remain unused due to lack of proper use or regular fire drill as a precaution.
The responsible officials of the fire service said that in 2010, a survey conducted to find out how the fire extinguishing system was done on 105 high-rise buildings of different heights from two thousand high-rise buildings showed that only 2 percent of the buildings were built following proper instructions. The fire service officials believe that there will be serious casualties if a fire occurs in these high-rise buildings built at a cost of crores of rupees.
In the construction of high-rise buildings, forcing the building owner to take fire service certificate as a pre-condition for connection or pre-approval of various customer services such as electricity, water, gas etc. The authorities have been working for one and a half years but are not getting any relief. The total number of multi-storied buildings in 10 zones of DCC is 2 thousand 150. According to Jonwari statistics 129 in Zone 1, 240 in Zone 2, 64 in Zone 3, 402 in Zone 4, 467 in Zone 5, 237 in Zone 6, 147 in Zone 7, 119 in Zone 8, 307 in Zone 9 and 10 There are 38 high-rise buildings in the zone. Buildings 4 and 5 have 40 percent high-rise buildings. More than half of the total buildings are residential buildings. There are also commercial buildings. According to the information received, there are 1 thousand 404 buildings of 7 to 9 floors, 504 of 10 to 14 floors, 240 of 15 to 29 floors and 2 buildings of more than 29 floors in the capital.
If the owners of these buildings have not taken any measures before, they can save themselves from any major accidents if they take immediate measures now. Because the heat is coming towards the end of winter. During this time, there are more fire incidents. Just as the builders of buildings should be vigilant, the concerned authorities should also ensure the protection of the citizens from all accidents by strictly enforcing the law. #
