I got down at Baraitli intersection of Chakriya. From the market, the road to the right leads to Magnam Ghat. I went to the ghat in about 30 minutes by CNG autorickshaw. From the Magnama ghat, distant Kutubdia can be seen. There are occasional engine boats and speedboats to go from the pier to the island. I sat down in the engine boat, it took about 30 minutes to cross Qutubdia Channel to Baraghop Ghat.

Kutubdia thana was formed in 1917 and in 1983 the thana was converted into an upazila. Transportation is good. The road is paved. There are battery rickshaws, tempos and even four wheelers for movement. There are also all kinds of shops. The water is a little more salty here. So Etuti is a numerous salt enclosure.

'Samudra Bilas' is the only good hotel in Baraghop Bazar. The sea is next to it. Rickshaws are available from the Ghat to Rasri Hotel. There are several food hotels in the market. After lunch and rest, I went to the beach. Due to the lack of familiarity, there are not many tourists except local people. Next to the wonderful Zhoubon. The atmosphere inside Jhowban is soothing. I wandered there for a while and headed towards the wind mill. A huge fan is standing next to the sea. The fans are spaced like the English letter L. A part of it stands right next to the sea. The view of the sunset over the sea was great as the windmill was facing west.

Nature of Qutubdia Qutubdia also has a lighthouse. The first lighthouse was built during the British period. Another one has been rebuilt after it sank in the sea. Looks like a mobile phone tower. Seen from afar - 'no entry to the public'. It takes about 40 minutes to go by rickshaw from Baraghop Bazar. Apart from this, you can visit Qutub Auliya's shrine Qutubagh. The entire island can be explored by battery operated rickshaws. It will take about two and a half hours. But it is better to finish the wandering phase before evening. Electricity is solar during the day and generator at night. The business of people in the area mainly revolves around salt and dried fruits. Good dryers are available here at low prices.

If you don't want to stay overnight, you should reach the ghat by evening. The last trawler leaves at 7pm. The sea is calm now. However, going to Qutubdia in stormy sea is a bit risky.

How to go:

Take the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar bus and get off at Chakriya Buraitli Junction. From there to Magnama Ghat (CNG reserve Tk 250, can also go by sharing), engine boat at a fare of Tk 20 per person to Kutubdia. It's best to bargain on a battery rickshaw to the island. Tempo is there to explore at a lower cost. Same way back. Apart from this, every morning from Baraghop Bazar, a big trawler can go to Chittagong through the deep sea, it takes about five hours.
