The architectural patterns of the houses suggest that rich merchant class people lived here. The houses show a mixture of Mughal and Greek architectural styles and each house has unique craftsmanship. There is evidence of innovative techniques in craftsmanship, use of colors and construction techniques. Cast iron brackets are used in almost every home construction. Iron grills have been used on the windows and ventilators have been used to ventilate the room. Most notably, the houses have perfect cast iron work, and many similarities to the cast iron work used in Europe can be seen. Apart from this, red, white, black mosaic work is noticeable on the floor. Apart from residential buildings, there are mosques, temples, churches, monasteries, baths, dance halls, panthshalas, chitrashalas, treasury, court rooms, secret passages, courthouses, old museums inside the city.
How to go:
You can go by bus from Dhaka's Gulistan. Buses to Doyle, Borak and Swades leave from there. Fare is Tk 45-55 per bus. Get off at Sonargaon Mugrapara Bus Stand. 15-20 taka by rickshaw from there.
