Hydrogen train was launched in Germany!

The Dhaka Times Desk Hydrogen train was launched in Germany! The modern hydrogen engine is being used in railways, which is currently a new transportation technology in the world, by removing all the previous diesel powered engines.

According to media reports, this hydrogen train was first launched from Bremerfurde station in Lower Saxony, Germany. On the 100 km railway line between Cuxhaven and Buxtehude, the diesel engines of the trains that were running until now have been replaced with hydrogen engines. Another 14 hydrogen engines made by France's Alstom are also planned to replace the country's trains by 2021.

Alstom CEO Henri Poport-Lafarge said at a ceremony held at Bremerfurde station recently to mark the train's inaugural journey, "The world's first hydrogen train has started commercial service. We are also ready for regular production of it.”

Alstom's hydrogen engine project manager Stefan Scharank said, “It is true that hydrogen engines are slightly more expensive than diesel engines. But its operating cost is very low.”

A hydrogen tank is reportedly attached to the train and its fuel cell is on the roof. Excess fuel will be stored in the battery due to the combination of oxygen and hydrogen to produce electricity. Once fueled, the train can travel at least 1,000 kilometers at a speed of 140 kilometers per hour. Another advantage is that the hydrogen engine will emit steam without any smoke. This hydrogen train does not cause any noise pollution.

It should be noted that the German state of Lower Saxony has already spent 81.3 million euros to reduce environmental pollution. It is said that this project has been started to ensure the use of renewable energy by the year 2050.
