The Dhaka Times Desk Now there is a mobile app in the market that will protect women from violence! Basically, this app has been created with the safety of women in mind.
Now the question is how will it work? It is said in this regard, by pressing a button of the mobile phone with you, a quick message will be sent to a friend or an emergency aid agency in case of danger. However, in this age of smart-phones, many such apps are already running in different countries.
These apps have been developed keeping in mind the safety of women. Bangladesh is also currently trying to experimentally see how technology can be used to quickly respond to incidents of violence against women and children and how to prevent it, or how to quickly provide useful treatment and legal assistance to women and children who are victims of violence.
Acid Survivors Foundation has undertaken a project in 16 Unions of Bogra and Narsingdi districts to see how technology can be used to prevent violence against women.
Celina Ahmed, executive director of the Acid Survivors Foundation, told the BBC that so far they have provided such assistance to 134 people.
Selina Ahmed said, to eliminate violence against women and girls, a help desk and a help line are being launched, providing medical services through e-clinic, creating a database in cases of violence - several works are being done. Attempts are being made to do this by making connections with the help of mobile phone apps.
Selina Ahmed also said, 'Wherever there is an incident of violence, our volunteers are recording detailed information on an app about how the torture happened, where it happened, what is the name. Then this information is coming very quickly to the help desk through the app. The help desk then assists the woman in getting the services she needs immediately.'
One such help desk officer is Musammat Mitu Khatun. He told the media that only volunteers have this app. He also said that through this it will be possible to get information in advance about the danger of violence against women in some places.
Explaining how it is done, Mitu Khatun said, 'Volunteers go to different houses in the village. Then if he sees that there is a problem in any house, he immediately informs through the app. Then a sharp look was kept on that house.' He also said that then they started talking with the people of that house.
Mitu Khatun also says, 'A few days ago someone called me and told me that a man from the village was trying to rape her. We then told him the easy way to get legal help.'
But so far this work is going on in a very small scale. That is, only 16 unions have its scope of work. Selina Ahmed, executive director of Acid Survivors Foundation, said that for now only their volunteers are alerting. However, they are also working so that this app can reach everyone through Google Play Store or App Store.
