An incarcerated killer who confessed to killing 90 people over four decades in a US prison is still under investigation. The FBI believes that the 78-year-old American man named Samuel Little is the number one serial killer in the history of crime. The news media published this news citing BBC.
Provincial and central agencies are specifically looking into dozens of murders of women between 1970 and 2005, along with information provided in her confession.
Investigators said he has been implicated in 34 murders so far. Inquiries are underway to confirm his involvement in many others. When the investigation is over, the police believe that it will be possible to know the actual number of crimes committed by this serial killer and their reasons.
Accused Samuel Little is currently serving time in prison after being convicted in 2014 of murdering three women, according to media reports.
It is known that in 2012 he was arrested from a homeless shelter in Kentucky and brought to California.
According to a leaked news, as the mystery of the death of three women killed in 1987 and 1989 was not revealed, Little's DNA sample was also collected on suspicion of involvement. Each of the three women was severely beaten and had strangulation marks before their bodies were dumped separately.
However, Samuel Little claimed his innocence during the trial, but in the end, the court sentenced him to three consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole.
It is to be noted that he had a record of extensive criminal activities against him, including allegations of rape and armed robbery.
After Little's confession, Little was sent to the FBI's Violent Crimes Project. There, the violence and sex crimes of such serial killers are analyzed and all information is shared with local law enforcement agencies to solve future unsolved crimes.
Officials with the project said they then found "an alarming pattern" and "links" to more such killings across the US.
An unsolved cold-blooded murder case in Odyssey, Texas emerged at the time, and Dennis Christie's relatives blamed the local authorities for the incident.
At that time, a local ranger, James Holland, was on his way to California to interview Little with members of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program, or VICAP.
They said Samuel Little agreed to talk to them because his goal was to get out of jail.
The FBI says Little has confessed to a total of 90 murders — spanning not only the United States, but from California to Maryland.
In a press release earlier this week, members of the VICAP team said they had found clear grounds for at least 34 killings, but many more were yet to be confirmed.
In that May interview, he also told Ranger Holland how many people he had killed at each location. Like “one in Jackson Mississippi, one in Cincinnati, Ohio, three in Phoenix, Arizona, one in Nevada and one in Las-Vegas”.
