This year saw the country's worst agricultural downturn in a decade. That is why the Pyongyang government has further reduced the amount of rations allocated to citizens. All in all, the misery of the country's citizens is going to increase in the coming days, it was reported by the United Nations last Friday.
A joint survey was also conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Program (WFP) last April and November 2018 on the food security of North Korean citizens. The survey's findings have caused headaches for UN officials. It is known that at the moment every resident of North Korea receives only 300 grams of daily ration, which is the lowest in the last few years.
According to a UN report, more than 10 million people in Kim's country face extreme food shortages. Which means they 'don't have enough food until the next crop is produced,' said a WFP spokesperson.
Note that the population of North Korea is 2.52 crore. However, these UN officials do not want to identify the current situation as 'famine'. However, if this continues for a few more months, UN officials have warned that famine is imminent.
