Oceans, acids and marine fossils

The Dhaka Times Desk About three-fourths of our earth is water. There are thousands of species of animals in this vast ocean. This great resource of ours is gradually losing its beauty due to pollution and endangering the lives of huge fauna and thousands of animal species.

If we do not stop the behavior of pollution then it will not be possible to save the coastal areas and oceans, where countless lives live. Innumerable resources are coming from this sea for the food supply of people living on our earth. Now is the time to create global awareness recently. The ocean is like the blood flow of the earth's body, just as if the blood is polluted, people will not survive, even if the ocean is polluted, it will not be possible to save anyone on earth.

The amount of acid in the sea is increasing due to the dumping of various types of waste materials, plastics, man-made waste, factory waste and various other nuisances. Ocean acidification is causing widespread extinction of marine life. It is a huge threat to all marine life. If this situation continues, the amount of acid in the ocean will reach such a level that no animals will be able to survive there. Ocean acidification will cause extinction of marine fossils. Recently, marine species are on the verge of extinction, which is a major indicator of the climate crisis.

The oceans have become acidic again, making seawater heavier as they absorb carbon emissions from the burning of coal, oil and gas, which in turn increases the acid and carbon content of the oceans.

According to scientists, environmental problems are occurring throughout our planet's oceans, putting at risk the regions that produce half of our oxygen. Due to which it is becoming a major environmental hazard day by day. Ocean acidification can lead to ecological collapse, endangering entire oceans and the fauna that depend on them. In a recent statement, researcher Henhan said that ocean acidification will be a threat to our future generations. In that case, it should be brought back to the previous state by taking the right steps very quickly.

In 1972, 87 countries participated in the effort to control the pollution of our oceans caused by the dumping of wastes and garbage. It was a brief London convention attended by officials from all countries. The main objective of the Convention was to identify the sources of marine pollution and control it along with effective implementation of waste disposal to prevent pollution. In order to protect the environment of our country and the country, not only the sea but also the river, special surveillance must be kept in the aquatic areas as well as the terrestrial areas. Everyone needs to be vocal about ocean acidification so that future generations can easily thrive.
