After the killing of Nusrat Jahan Rafi, there were protests across the country demanding punishment for the killers. The demand for the hanging of these murderers rose nationwide. These protests across the country have been going on for a long time.
Madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi was burnt to death in Sonagazi, Feni, after she protested against the sexual harassment of the madrasa principal. The court sentenced all the 16 accused arrested in this case to death.
After 7 months of the murder, Judge Mamunur Rashid of Feni Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal gave the verdict today (Thursday).
It is to be noted that on April 6, Nusrat was taken to the roof and set on fire at the Alim examination center at Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa in Feni. On April 8, her brother Mahmudul Hasan Noman filed a case under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act at Sonagazi Model Police Station. On March 27, Feni's Sonagazi Islamia Fazel (Degree) madrasa student Nusrat's mother filed a case against Madrasa principal Siraj-ud-Daula under the Women and Child Abuse Act. On March 28, in the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate ASM Emran, Nusrat gave a statement of sexual assault against her. Sonagazi police chief was arrested on the same day. Later on April 10, Nusrat died while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
