The Dhaka Times Desk Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid is on a morning-evening strike across the country to protest against the verdict in the case of committing crimes against humanity during the liberation war in 1971.
Jamaat-e-Islami called today's hartal in protest when the War Crimes Tribunal-2 decision was announced on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, security has been ensured across the country, including the capital, based on the hartal. A large number of law enforcement agencies are deployed in the capital. Law enforcement agencies including Police-RAB have taken alert position at various important places.
Minibuses, CNG are running in the capital. Although the markets are closed, offices-courts, banks-insurance are open. No long-distance bus left from the capital. However, the train left Kamalapur station as usual.
Panic has been created by the explosion of hand grenades in Dhanmondi of the capital. Hartal supporters set fire to trucks and covered vans in Rangpur. Besides, when picketing was attempted in some places of the capital, the police prevented it.
