Dhol Samudra Dighi is the name of a traditional Mahakirti of Raja Mukut Ray in Pagla Kanai Union of Jhenaidah District. It is the largest and hundred year old lake in Jhenaidah located just 4 km west of the district town. This Dighi is spread over an area of about 52 bighas. Rows of trees on the shores of Dhol Samudra Dighi have increased the beauty of the Dighi many times. On holidays, the people of Jhenaidah spend time with their families on the shores of Dhol Samudra Dighi. There exists a different scenario.

It is said that during the reign of the illustrious King Mukut Ray in Jhenaidah, there was a severe water crisis among the subjects. After working day and night on the instructions of the king, a deep and wide pond was dug, but no water rose in the pond. The despondent king saw in a dream one night that if the queen went down to the pond and worshiped, the pond would be filled with water. Hearing about the king's dream, the queen readily agreed to go down to the pond and worship for the sake of the subjects. The people gathered on the banks of the pond to worship the queen with pomp and circumstance, playing drums, sanai and flutes. After the queen went down to the bottom of the pond for the purpose of worship, immediately the water started rising from the bottom of the pond. But when the queen wanted to come up from the bottom of the pond, the water's velocity increased. Meanwhile, in the joy of the rising water and the sound of the drums, flutes and sanai of the subjects, no one paid any attention to the pond. In no time, Rani drowned in the water of the pond and died. The sound of the drum seemed to be the death of the queen. Later, due to its large size, this Dighi came to be known as "Dhol Samudra Dighi" to the locals in memory of the queen.
