New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said at a regular briefing on Saturday that he was concerned about the recent increase in symptoms of toxic shock and Kawasaki disease. These include inflammation of the blood vessels, skin rash, swelling of the glands, heart damage in severe cases.
Governor Andrew Cuomo also said that 3 children died with such symptoms in New York last Friday. Among them is a 5-year-old child who was also found to be corona positive.
New York's governor said 73 other patients in his state with similar symptoms were being monitored by local health officials. However, it is still not completely certain whether these symptoms are due to corona infection or not.
In this case, it is feared that children who have been considered to be less vulnerable in the case of contracting the corona virus, may no longer be. In other words, there is a possibility of this virus infection at a high rate among children.
Governor Andrew Cuomo said, 'We're not quite sure yet. Symptoms like Kawasaki disease or toxic shock are also seen in children. It is very possible that they have been suffering from these symptoms for several weeks and have not yet been diagnosed with the corona virus.'
Cuomo said health officials are working with the New York Genome Center and Rockefeller University to test whether these symptoms have a genetic basis. They have also been asked by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to define a standard for identifying and treating these symptoms.
