According to government sources, this step is being taken to create a 'buffer zone' to reduce tension on the border. For now, the army has started the process of retreating to Galwan. Moreover, the process has also started in Gogra hot spring area. However, there has been no change in the 'finger area' north of Pangong Lake in eastern Ladakh.
Quoting an Indian Army source, news agency ANI said that the Chinese army has retreated by about one to two kilometers in Galwan. However, People's Liberation Army armored vehicles are still stationed on the banks of the Galwan River. They are monitoring the Indian Army situation.
On June 15, 20 Indian soldiers were killed in a clash with Chinese troops near Patrolling Point-14 in Galwan. Army sources reported that about 45 soldiers were killed on the Chinese side as well. On this day, it was reported that the Chinese troops have moved back about two kilometers from the area located in the Indian territory inside the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
According to a report published by some media outlets, the Indian forces deployed in the Galwan Valley have also moved back a little from their previous positions. The NNI also reported that this 'disengagement' was a result of the meeting of the core commanders of the two armies on June 22 and 30 after the bloody encounter in Galwan. The retreat of the Chinese army has started since Sunday.
However, security experts have expressed doubts about whether Chinese troops will move north of Pangong Lake even if the process is effective in the Galwan and Gogra hot spring areas. Because China has made a permanent base by building roads, culverts, concrete bunkers in finger area 4 to 8. Due to which the Indian troops are not able to patrol the areas adjacent to the LAC.
Along with this, it is also known from the published news that the Lalfouz, which entered across the LAC in Depasang area near the Daulat Beg Oldi Air Force Base in North Ladakh, has not yet retreated.
