The Dhaka Times Desk The World Health Organization has adopted a plan to launch a new technology for testing samples of corona virus in 133 countries of the world. In this test method, the result will be available in maximum 30 minutes.
According to a BBC news, this test will cost a maximum of 5 dollars i.e. less than 500 rupees. There will be 120 million tests in 6 months. Such agreements have been made with manufacturers in these countries. The World Health Organization has termed this as an important milestone.
The World Health Organization says the new testing system will bring a dramatic change in the fight against the coronavirus for poor and middle-income countries. It will make them much more capable.
Many countries are lagging behind in preventing the spread of the virus due to the long time it takes to test for the virus and get its results.
At a press conference in Geneva yesterday (Monday), WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the 'new, easy-to-use and portable' test could provide information on results in 15 to 30 minutes, not hours or days.
Drug maker Abbott & SD has already agreed to produce 120 million tests to the charity Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The testing system will be offered to 133 countries with the world's highest infection and death rates.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also said that the testing system will help expand the testing system in areas where testing labs are few or easy to reach.
According to the information of the World Health Organization, it is basically a type of 'antigen rapid test'. In this test, a swab or sample is collected from the nose or throat to see if the virus is present.
Antigens are viral proteins that enter the body and start replicating themselves using the cell's protein synthesis system. When viruses, bacteria, parasites enter the body, the body considers them as antigens. If someone tests positive for the antigen, they are presumed to have been infected with the virus.
Bangladesh was also announced to approve the antigen test at the end of last August.
