An incident last Wednesday morning shocked everyone. A video from Barkas area shows a person being swept away by floodwaters. He is trying hard to survive. Local residents are shouting after seeing a man floating like this in front of their eyes. Two are trying hard to rescue. The man is also seen throwing a tire to rescue him. But the current was so high that even the tires floated away in the water.
A similar situation has arisen in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. A high alert has been issued there. It is also reported that there may be more heavy rain in the next twenty four hours. Heavy rains have started in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh due to deep depression over Bay of Bengal.
Last Tuesday night, 9 people including 3 children died when the wall of a house in Bandlaguda area of Hyderabad collapsed. A 19-day-old baby is among the dead. 12 people have lost their lives due to rain and floods in the last 48 hours. Houses were also destroyed. The death toll is likely to rise further.
Regarding the flood situation in Telangana state, Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar said that 'State and National Disaster Response Teams have started rescue operations on wartime basis. After examining the situation in the state, he also announced a two-day public holiday.
