The Dhaka Times Desk The archeology department of the country claims that a painting of approximately 45,000 years ago has been found in a cave in Indonesia.
According to a report by the British media BBC, the image of wild boar was found in a cave in Leang Tedong, Sulawesi island of the country. A report on this cave animal image has also been published in the journal Science Advances. The image of a Sulawesi pig, painted using dark red matte pigments, is considered the oldest evidence of human settlement in the region.
One of its authors, Maxim Ubayer, also found deposits of calcite on top of the cave paintings. Uranium-series isotope dating has given the age of the deposit to 45,500 years.
"Those who made it," says Maxim Ubayer, "were completely modern, they were like us, and they had the ability and materials to paint any picture they wanted."
According to a report in the journal Science Advances, the horn-shaped mass seen on the pig's mouth in the 136 cm long and 54 cm wide image is a characteristic of the full-grown male of the species.
Adam Broom, another author of the report, said the pig appeared to be observing a fight or social interaction between two other pigs.
This cave painting found in Indonesia is the oldest picture of an animal or character found so far, but it is not the oldest picture drawn by humans. It was originally a doodle that looked like a hashtag made in South Africa about 73,000 years ago, making it the oldest drawing ever found.
