When the UN spokesperson expressed such fears about the Rohingyas, the organization's Security Council was going to hold an emergency meeting on the overall situation in Myanmar. In a press conference, UN spokesperson Stefan Dujarric said, "There are still about 600,000 Rohingya in Rakhine State, of which about 120,000 Rohingya are in detention camps there. These Rohingyas cannot even move freely and they are also deprived of basic health and education services.'
"Therefore, we fear that the current situation may make their situation even more critical," said Stefan Duzrich. '
In 2017, more than 700,000 Rohingya Muslims fled the military operation in Myanmar's Rakhine state and came to Bangladesh, who have taken shelter in refugee camps in Bangladesh. Then UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Western countries accused the Myanmar military of carrying out 'genocide and genocide' in Rakhine. However, the Myanmar military has always denied this allegation.
In a military coup in the early hours of February 1, the army seized control of the country, arresting several top leaders of the ruling party, including President Win Myint and ruling party leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) won a majority in elections held last November. However, due to the conflict and tension between Myanmar's civilian government and the influential military force, the military coup happened for several days, according to the media including the BBC.
