The Dhaka Times Desk Three people died after a fire broke out in the intensive care unit (ICU) allocated for patients affected by the corona virus on the third floor of the new building of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMH).
The fire incident took place today (Wednesday) at 8:13 am. 3 people died during the transfer of patients after this incident.
Brigadier General Nazmul Haque, director of DMK Hospital, confirmed the matter and said to the media, 'All the patients in the ICU were in critical condition. All of them were on ventilator support. Immediately after the fire, they were rushed to the ICU of the old building and the HDU of the burn unit. Later, 3 people died there.'
On receiving information about the fire, 3 fire service units reached the spot and extinguished the fire. Due to the heavy smoke, ICU windows were broken to vent the smoke. Patients in ICU were rescued safely. 18 Covid patients were under treatment in this ICU unit.
However, the relatives of the deceased patients claimed that they died due to fire.
