The Persian word is Shabbat. The word 'Shab' means night and the word 'Barat' means good fortune. With these two words, 'Shabe Barat' means a lucky candle. In Arabic it is called 'Lailatul Barat'. Today, 14th Shaban Monday, is the night before the holy Shabbat.
The 14th day of Shaban of Hijri calendar i.e. the day before today is a very holy and glorious day for the world Muslim community. Almighty Allah opens the doors of His infinite mercy for His servants on this night or Rajni.
On this glorious night, devout Muslims will seek forgiveness from Almighty Allah in deep repentance for all kinds of mistakes and sins of the past life. Through Nafal Namaz, Zikir-Azkar, recitation of the Holy Qur'an, spending quiet nights and humbly praying, you will be engrossed in praying for a pure life, avoiding sins and impurity in the future life. Along with this, prayers are done on this day by visiting the graves of the deceased relatives and asking for the forgiveness of their souls.
In the neighborhood mosques, Milad mahfil and special prayers start from evening. Many people also fast on this day. He is engaged in worship all night long. After the month of Shaban comes the holy month of Ramadan. Shaba Barat brings the message of Ramadan to every Muslim. The preparations for the fasting of the month of Ramadan basically begin with Shaba Barat.
In the Bengali Muslim society we also have another joyous social aspect of Shabbat. On this day, delicious food including halwa, pies, bread, meat is cooked in the homes of Muslims. The tradition of sending these foods to relatives, neighbors and distributing them to the poor and needy has been going on for thousands of years. As always, the day after Shabbat i.e. tomorrow Tuesday will be a public holiday. Private institutions will also be closed.
Various religious organizations have undertaken various programs on the occasion of the holy Shabbat. The Islamic Foundation organized a night-long waj mahafil, dua and special prayers at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. But all events will be in compliance with health rules. President Abdul Hamid Advocate, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in separate messages wished the country peace, prosperity, progress and welfare of the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of Holy Shaba Barat.
