One such incident took place at Malot in Punjab's Muktsar district on Saturday. The three who were beaten up were BJP MP Arun Narang. He is also a member of the state assembly.
Police in the country said the leader was mobbed by a group of agitated people while he was on his way to a press conference in support of the Centre's new agriculture law. Ink was thrown at the leader and his companions first. At this time, the police let everyone into a local shop after crowding. After a while, the leaders came out of the shop thinking that the situation had calmed down.
In no time the excited mob was upon them. Kills, slaps, punches started flying from the crowd one after another. The leader's clothes were torn. The police rescued the leader from the agitated crowd and took him to safety.
According to the news of Anandabazar newspaper, the video of this incident has spread on social media. Malot Police Deputy Superintendent Jaspal Singh said, 'The local agitators were adamant that they would not allow the BJP leader to hold a press conference. One of our workers was also injured while handling the situation.'
In an interview given to the news agency PTI after the incident, Arun said, 'I was punched randomly. Clothes have also been torn.' He himself has not reported the matter to the police yet. BJP MP Arun Narang said that he will take the next step by talking to the top leaders of the party.
