Shabbat is a Persian word. The word 'Shab' means night and 'Barat' means good fortune. With these two words, 'Shabe Barat' means the candle of good fortune. In Arabic it is called 'Lailatul Barat'. The night before the day of today, 14 Shaban Friday, is the holy Shabbat.
The 14th day of the Hijri calendar month of Shaban i.e. the night before today is a very holy and glorious day for the world Muslim community. Almighty Allah opens the door of His endless mercy for the servants on this night or Rajni.
On this glorious night, devout Muslims will seek forgiveness from Almighty Allah in deep repentance for all kinds of mistakes and sins of the past life. Through Nafal Namaz, Zikir-Azkar, recitation of the Holy Qur'an, spending quiet nights and humbly praying, you will be engrossed in praying for a pure life, avoiding sins and impurity in the future life. Along with this, they visit the graves of their deceased relatives and pray for the forgiveness of their souls on this day.
Milad Mahfil and special prayers will also start in the neighborhood mosques from evening onwards. Many people fast on this day. He is engaged in worship all night long. After the month of Shaban comes the holy month of Ramadan. Shaba Barat brings the message of Ramadan to every Muslim. The preparations for fasting in the month of Ramadan basically begin with Shabbat.
In the Bengali Muslim society we also have another joyous social aspect of Shabbat. On this day, delicious food including halwa, pies, bread, meat is cooked in the homes of Muslims. The tradition of sending these foods to the homes of relatives, neighbors and distributing them among the poor has been going on for thousands of years. As always, the day after Shabbat i.e. tomorrow Saturday will be a public holiday. However, Saturday is a public holiday in the government office court. However, private institutions will remain closed.
Various religious organizations have also undertaken various programs on the occasion of the holy Sabbath. The Islamic Foundation organized a night-long waj mahafil, dua and special prayers at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. President Abdul Hamid Advocate, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Leader of Opposition Roshan Ershad, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in separate messages wished the country peace, prosperity, progress and welfare of the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of Holy Shaba Barat.
