In this process, if a sufficient number of inactive males can actually be introduced into the breeding grounds of the mosquito, then the normal breeding process of the mosquito will be really disrupted. Even the fertile male mosquitoes in the mosquito breeding field cannot play much of a role then. Although the scientists of New Mexico State University have experimentally succeeded in this process, many people are very worried about its implementation. The reason is that the number of inactive mosquitoes that can be created in the lab and the feasibility of sending these mosquitoes to the breeding field have been questioned. The reason is that billions of mosquitoes live in a single mosquito breeding field. So there is considerable doubt as to whether it is at all possible to change the whole process by artificially sending mosquitoes there.
However, scientists involved in the study claim that producing inactive mosquitoes is not difficult. The lab has the ability to create as many mosquitoes as it wants. Scientists have also solved the problem of transporting large quantities of mosquitoes to breeding grounds. They want to use a special type of syringe system to carry large numbers of mosquitoes at once. They will be able to inject these mosquitoes into a syringe and bring them into a very small space with special pressure.
A recent research report published in the Journal of Insect Science states that it is possible to carry a large number of mosquitoes in a very small space. A researcher named Chang, who was not involved in the study, said that it is possible to hold 240 mosquitoes in one cubic centimeter of space. A teaspoon can carry at least 1,200 mosquitoes. They were able to place 10,000 inactive male mosquitoes in a single 10 millimeter syringe. Mosquitoes were squeezed into syringes to enclose them in a very small space. However, if mosquitoes are brought into less space in this process, the concerned scientists have to think about whether the mosquitoes will die again. It has been found that this method does not kill very many mosquitoes. Even if some mosquitoes break their legs or fins, it is not serious.
The research team also had to think about the challenges of transporting mosquitoes to distant destinations in these syringes. Scientists also expect some more important advances in the coming years to control disease-carrying mosquitoes with inactivated mosquitoes. However, the entire process is also being criticized as being quite expensive.
