Jhowdia Shahi Mosque in Kushtia

Jhowdia Shahi Mosque is located in Jhowdia village, 22 km away from Kushtia Sadar Upazila. It is a historical archaeological site.

The exact date of construction of the brick, stone, sand and porcelain mosque is not known. There are many legends about this mosque. Legend has it that the Jhowdia Shahi Mosque was miraculously built. Many people think that during the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb, Shah Sufi Adari of Iraq built a monastery in this region for the purpose of spreading Islam. Later, Jhowdia built the mosque for worship. The exquisitely beautiful Jhowdia Shahi Mosque is known as one of the oldest architectural monuments of Kushtia today.

The main structure of the artistically crafted mosque has 3 domes, 3 doors and 3 queues for prayers. The beautiful 5 domes on the top of the mosque and 2 minarets at the inner entrance door can be noticed. The Jhowdia Shahi Masjid also has two spectacular lime and surki windows on the north and south sides.

This mosque is built with mud tali, lime and surki so it is quite cool inside. However, the main feature of the mosque is its decorated walls. Sufi saint's grave is next to Shahi Mosque. In 1969, this mosque was registered by the Directorate of Archeology of Bangladesh. Nowadays, many pilgrims and visitors from far and wide come to the mosque to offer prayers and visit.
