The Dhaka Times Desk A 5-month-old baby is 'turning to stone' due to a rare genetic disorder, his parents say.
This little baby's name is Lexi Robbins, a resident of Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, UK. Doctors say that one in every two million people is affected by this problem. They said, there is no treatment for this disease.
Lexi was born on January 31 to Alex and Dave from Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, UK. Not much movement was observed in his big toes after birth. It didn't seem right. After being taken to a doctor, Lexie Robbins was diagnosed with fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP).
The tendons and ligaments of the muscles and connective tissue in the body of people suffering from this disease turn into bones at one time. Suffering from this disease can cause bone formation outside the skeleton, making movement nearly impossible. That is why the disease is often compared to 'turning to stone'.
According to doctors, people suffering from this disease lose their ability to walk at the age of 20 years. Affected individuals live up to about 40 years. Lexi was x-rayed last April. Later in mid-May, Lexi's parents found out about her rare disease.
