At the same time, the UN agency has strongly criticized vaccine manufacturers' prioritization of booster third doses, leaving health workers and the elderly in poor countries completely unvaccinated.
At the press conference, the chief of the organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has to hear the most frequent question: when will this epidemic end?
When asked the same question again, he said that we can finish it very soon. Because we have weapons. But the world lacks qualified leadership.
He also said that vaccine nationalism will prolong this crisis. If you explain it in one word it can be called greed. Tedros also said that it would be counterproductive to give booster doses to other countries around the world to keep the virus from spreading. He pointed out that it has no meaning.
It may be noted that Soma Swaminathan, chief scientist of the agency, said that four countries have already announced booster doses and some countries are considering taking this initiative. He added that there is currently no scientific evidence to support the need for such dosages.
Tedros pointed to vaccine makers Mordana and Pfizer, saying they should strengthen Covax's supply channel rather than prioritizing booster doses in countries where populations are already relatively safe.
In addition, Tedros highlighted the increase in the number of corona infections in the world for four consecutive weeks until last week, saying that the delta type of corona has spread alarmingly in more than 104 countries of the world. This type is expected to become the main strain of corona worldwide soon.
