A number of pro-democracy and separatist groups are working together to oust the military regime from the seat of power. They have already formed a shadow government called the National Unity Government (NUG).
That government has always relied on public donations to advance their 'revolution'. This time, to increase the range of financial support, bonds were issued by the government. The government said that 3 million dollars worth of bonds were sold in the first 3 hours of release. At the end of the day it stood at 6.3 million. The amount of this money in Bangladeshi currency is 54 crore 34 lakh taka. This government's goal is to sell $1 billion worth of bonds.
According to NUG, these two-year bonds worth $100, $500, $1,000 and $5,000 will be sold mainly to Myanmar citizens living abroad. Citizens of the country are buying these bonds even though there is no profit to be made from them.
NUG spokesperson Dr. "Through this, I see the great enthusiasm of the people to uproot the foundations of the fascist military regime," Sasa said in a Facebook post.
On the other hand, according to the junta government, this shadow government called the National Unity Government (NUG) is running a 'terrorist' movement. However, the news agency Reuters did not get a statement from the junta government about the bond.
A 27-year-old Myanmar citizen invested $500 in this bond. He told Reuters on condition of anonymity that, “We do not expect to get back the bond money after two years. We are buying it because we want to contribute to this revolution as well.”
