The Islamic organization also called on the OIC international community to act urgently to protect the holy and historical sites in Palestine and to compel the Israeli occupation authorities to respect the sanctity of the holy sites.
The Israeli president visited the Ibrahimi Mosque in the West Bank city of Hebron last Sunday to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. He entered the mosque with a large contingent of Israeli police to take part in a candle-lighting ceremony.
The director of the Ibrahimi Mosque, Sheikh Hefthi Abu Sneina, said Israeli forces entered and closed the mosque and prevented Palestinian worshipers from entering.

Notably, after the killing of 29 Palestinian worshipers inside the mosque by a Jewish extremist, Baruch Goldstein, in 1994, Israeli authorities divided the mosque complex between Muslim and Jewish worshippers.
The UNESCO World Heritage Committee added the Ibrahimi Mosque and the Old City of Hebron to the World Heritage List in July 2017. Hebron is home to about 160,000 Palestinian Muslims and about 500 Jewish settlers.
