The Dhaka Times Desk The Organization of Islamic Cooperation or OIC has expressed support for Kashmir's special status. In a statement, the OIC said this status was internationally recognized but was recently revoked by India's Narendra Modi government.
After revoking the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian government rejected the OIC statement claiming that the matter was their internal matter.
The statement said that the Office of the Secretary-General reiterated its support for the resolution passed by the United Nations Security Council and called for a referendum to be held under the auspices of the United Nations to resolve the Kashmir issue. Along with this, the OIC also expressed its solidarity with the people of Kashmir.
The OIC statement also called for an immediate withdrawal of the curfew imposed by the Indian government in Kashmir. On the other hand, the IC also commented in their statement that there is an urgent need to start a dialogue between India and Pakistan for a permanent solution to the Kashmir crisis.
