The Dhaka Times Desk The Netherlands and Bangladesh will work together for a sustainable startup ecosystem and explore opportunities to develop ties in the IT sector between the two countries.
This information was informed in a meeting between the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Bangladesh Anne Van Leeuwen and Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) President Russell T Ahmed. The meeting was held on Monday (April 4, 2022) at the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Gulshan in the capital.
The Ambassador praised the progress of Bangladesh's IT sector in technological and economic changes over the past few years. He discussed a wide range of issues related to the IT business, including the various challenges and opportunities, with BASIS presidents.
In the meeting, Russell T Ahmed said that Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared information technology as the 'year product' of 2022. In line with this, BASIS focuses on the seven pillars of building future-proof human resources, developing local industries, expanding overseas markets, increasing capital and financial incentives, creating a rich ecosystem for startups, creating policies to support the growth of intangible assets and promoting the IT sector. ICT has started working towards excellence in the industry. Basis is also working towards achieving export revenue targets of US$ 5 billion by 2024 and US$ 20 billion by 2031 in the ICT sector.
BASIS President Russell T Ahmed highlighted how the Dutch Embassy and BASIS can work together to enhance the startup ecosystem, human resource capacity building and IT sector exports.
Ambassador of the Netherlands Ann van Leeuwen mentioned that they are interested in the development of the information technology sector of Bangladesh on BASIS. The Netherlands is also keen to participate in business-to-business matchmaking sessions, road shows and the next Basis SoftExpo.
