প্রাক্তন সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়ন ও মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের পর চীনই তৃতীয় দেশ যারা মহাকাশে মহাকাশচারী পাঠিয়েছে। ২০১১ ও ২০১৬ সালে উৎক্ষেপিত স্টেশনগুলোর পর তিয়ানগংই হলো চীনের তৃতীয় মহাকাশ স্টেশন।
চীন সরকার ২০২০ সালে ঘোষণা করেছিল যে, দেশটির প্রথম পুনঃব্যবহারযোগ্য মহাকাশযান একটি পরীক্ষামূলক উৎক্ষেপণের পর অবতরণ করেছে। তবে এর স্বপক্ষে কোনো ছবি কিংবা বিবরণ এখনও প্রকাশ করা হয়নি।
